​​​The Systems Engineering group also performs the function of 3D CAD Model Integration for the Far Site and Near Site. 

Far Site

CAD models are produced by multiple sources across the LBNF, DUNE and Integration teams.  It is not realistic that all these models would be produced using the same CAD platform.  Systems Engineering works with all sources of CAD models to determine what format is the least disruptive path for the conversion needed to integrate these models into the global controlled model.  After agreement on format, each model is uploaded and released in EDMS.  The Systems Engineering group works with the subproject integration engineers to develop models for each subsystem.  These are then inserted into the global model.

The current repository for the Mechanical Integration models is in EDMS https://edms.cern.ch/project/CERN-0000204070.   When sufficient or critical changes are made to subsystems a new version of the integrated model is produced and released.  An integrated detector model is received along with a build report that give the coordinates for this model along with a description of the major changes and critical interfaces and any known interferences. Other subsystems will also inform SE of changes.  All of the models are integrated, a change report is produced, any layout drawings are updated and then all are released. An email announcement is sent out to all stakeholders with the new information.    

Due to the size of the project, the subsystem and global models are difficult to navigate without very specialized computers.  In order to make these models available to the stakeholders, Systems Engineering converts the CAD models into formats that can be used and viewed in AutoDesk Navisworks as a complement to the 3D models.  Navisworks allows the stakeholders to navigate the models, combine subsystem models, take measurements, check for interferences and make realistic renderings.  ​​

For the Far Site, FNAL receives facility files from the CF A/E in Revit format, cryostat and detector files from CERN, as well as various detector component models from DUNE.  These are integrated into a central model, converted, and made available for stakeholder reviews using EDMS.
