Register as a User at CERN

Why Do I Need to Register as a User at CERN

  • You are working on ProtoDUNE and will be -
    • Traveling to CERN for only a few days (i.e. for a review)
    • Traveling to CERN for a longer period of time or will make several trips
    • Needing access to CERN computing resources
  • If you are not working on ProtoDUNE and believe you need to register with CERN contact Maxine Hronek

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER AS A USER AT CERN if you will not vist CERN and will only need remote access to CERN computing resources (see the Getting Computer Accounts at CERN section on this page)

What You Need to Do

  1. If you are traveling to CERN (one time only) for only a few days and do not need CERN computing accounts
    1. Talk to Maxine Hronek to get a temporary visitor ID
  2. If you are traveling to CERN more regularly, or for a longer period of time, or need CERN computing accounts
    1. Read the Welcome to CERN page - Contains CERN users office information
    2. Talk to Maxine Hronek. She will send you the forms you need to fill out.  You will need to send her a copy of your passport
      1. NOTE: as part of the application to CERN - request access to the np-comp UNIX computing group (this will help you get access to CENF)
      2. Your institution should have its own Teamleader/Supervisor for ProtoDUNE SP.
        1. Flavio Cavanna is the Teamleader/Supervisor for ProtoDUNE SP for Fermilab.

Before Traveling to CERN

  1. Read the Before Arrival link on the left hand side of the CERN users office page
  2. Fill out the CERN registration form
  3. Fill out the Home Institution Declaration on the same page
  4. Then follow the instructions in the section titled 'As a USER If you come to CERN'
