ComPASS Project and SciDAC-3 Summary

Under SciDAC-2, ComPASS has produced accelerator modeling tools to enable the efficient use of high-performance computing (HPC). The project will now advance under SciDAC-3 to improve, develop, and refine these tools and applications in order to support the design of new projects at the intensity frontier.
The next decade in high-energy physics (HEP) will be very significant as the community moves forward to explore the intensity and energy frontiers of particle physics. This work will involve designing high intensity proton sources for neutrino physics and rare process searches, as well as high intensity muon sources for neutrino physics. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will continue to explore the energy frontier, while new concepts and technologies will be required for the next lepton collider, as well as R&D work for new acceleration technologies.
ComPASS will develop the HPC tools and applications to design Project X, the proposed proton driver at Fermilab, and also the next lepton collider. In addition, the project will also undertake R&D for new acceleration technologies at FACET and BELLA. To achieve these goals, ComPASS will rely on successful collaboration with the SciDAC institutes to develop algorithms and techniques that will take advantage of of modern HPC platforms and efficiently utilize many core systems.
